TEKOA DEPOT REST STOP

TEKOA DEPOT REST STOP

Several years ago when city hall was located on Crosby street, next door was a tavern known as the Golden Grain. One night the tavern burned to the ground leaving a big hole and an unsightly mess. The City  purchased the property, and  decided that it might be a good place to expand city hall one day.

As the city checked into building, it was decided that it was too expensive to build a new city hall, so city hall expanded to the Old Case Building on North Washington . So now what are we going to do with the property? Several suggestions were made including what about a parking lot? We soon decided that a parking lot was not the best idea,  but what about a Public Restroom Facility?

A committee was formed and the work began. We found out about a Restroom Facility that we could obtain through Department of Transportation. We purchased it, and had many volunteers, had a fund raiser, and everyone worked very hard on the project.

It is  such a nice addition to our town, and flowers and shrubs have been planted, as well as grass. Many people use it, and is especially nice during performances at the theater located across the street.

It is not complete yet, as there are plans to add more as funds become available, but thanks to Avista for the lighting, and everyone who contributed to this project, it has become a welcome site to travelers and citizens of Tekoa.
