~Many exciting activities are happening at the Tekoa Library this month. Our Cowboys and Cowgirls in Story and Song program was a huge success last month. Thanks to all who made it to the show! The WORC program continues through April. Our computers will be available on Thursdays from 4-6 p.m. for job searches. Help will be available for resume building and cover letter skills upon request. We may be starting a Children’s Movie Night one night a month, so watch for further information on that at the library. The Will James Foundation has generously donated a series of books to the Tekoa Library, so come in and check out our newest westerns.
~The City of Tekoa had their exit interview for the 2008 audit. It was conducted by the Washington Sate Auditor’s office in September 2009. We are happy to report that there were no findings or management letter items. Most of the prior audit exit items were resolved, and we have already made changes to resolve the items that were listed as unresolved on the report.
~Messages from the Mayor~
I really don’t have a great deal to report on this month. Matt Morkert, an engineer from Century West, reported on the progress of a grant I wrote about last month. We should hear something about this grant during the month of May.
Please remember to complete your census report and mail it in. Tekoa generally qualifies for low- interest loans and grants, because our income level is lower than state and national averages. Completing the census report and mailing it in could have an impact on water/sewer rates in the future!!
As if we don’t have enough problems/concerns, we now understand that our waste-water plant is in jeopardy of being out of compliance. I have requestedthat our engineering firm come to our May 3 council meeting with information all of the Tekoa citizens need to know. Please mark this date on your calendar. The meeting will be at City Hall at 7:00 p.m.
Now for a Slippery Gulch update:
Angie Rambo, who will again be in charge of the fireworks, reports that she will have a dinner and dessert auction in May to help finance the fireworks display. No doubt, the Jaycee Club will be the site of this yearly event.
I see that the Jaycee Club will have a dance both Friday and Saturday nights with ‘Four on the Floor’ band. C&D’s Bar and Grill will have Kelly Hughes band on Saturday, at a site not yet determined. Portia Pillig will also be organizing a teen dance for Saturday night.
The next Slippery Gulch meeting will be April 6 at the Café’ Artisan at noon for anyone who would like to get involved with our celebration day.
Our next council meeting will be on April 19 at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall.
