~Messages from the Mayor~
~~Building Inspector With the resignation of Stan Kittock, we again needed to hire a new building inspector. We had four excellent candidates for the position and Zach Lanham from Desmet, Idaho, was selected. If you would like to reach Zach, his cell phone number is 1-208-750-6688.
~~Street Levy We are again requesting a $50,000 levy for street maintenance for 2010. I will address this levy in future newsletters so everyone can see how the money will be budgeted. This is the same amount we have requested for several years.
~~Monthly Council Meetings Currently, we meet twice each month. It has been suggested, by the Mayor, that one meeting each month might be sufficient. The Council is interested in your feelings concerning this suggestion!
~~Water Reservoir As I have mentioned in past newsletters, it appears that our reservoir, with some structural reinforcements, will last for many years. The steel trusses that support the roof have deteriorated and may well be a safety risk. These trusses span the entire width (84 feet) of the building. We are hoping to get funding to make these repairs in the future.
~~State/Federal Funding We are finding that the federal stimulus money and funds from the state agencies is very difficult to obtain. We are hoping that there may be some of the stimulus money available in “round two” of the federal government’s plans to stimulate the economy. We are, what the government refers to as “shovel-ready”, meaning that we are prepared to immediately begin our sewer/water projects if funding becomes available.
~~Tekoa EMT’S How about giving recognition to the Emergency Medical Technicians and drivers who are on call 24 hours a day. I know they need new EMT recruits, as well as drivers. If interested, call Jim Gordon 284-2238. Currently we have 5 EMT’s Jim Gordon, Lee Arnold, Sherma Tysz, La Donna Sienknecht, and Helmut Schatz. There are also 5 drivers that include Duane Groom, Joe Brandt, Heath Pillig, Rob Wilkins, and Mike McHargue.
Have a great August everyone and a special wish for a bountiful harvest for our area farmers!
