HTC NEWS: It's all about the family during January for Healthy Tekoa programs. First, on January 7 from 5:30 to 7:30 at THS is Family Night at the Table. Culinary Arts students will demonstrate making healthy family meals, Dietitian Brenna VanDalson will speak on healthy meal choices, and then families will be given meal ingredients to make the meal at home. This program is co-sponsored by FCCLA and Healthy Tekoa. On January 12, is a community workshop on recognizing marijuana use at THS from 3-5. This is a great opportunity to learn what paraphernalia and drugs youth may be using. Lego Robotics for grades 6 and up and their parents is on January 19, at THS. Teens will build a lego robot and use a computer to program and manipulate the robot. There are two sessions, from 3-5 and from 6-8 will be limited to 24 kids and one parent per session. Food will be served from 5-6. Sign up will begin January 6. Teens must sign up to attend. Healthy Tekoa continues to provide free online Parenting Wisely workshop. This private and highly interactive program is for parents with children of all ages. Parenting is not an easy job for anyone, but this online program provides some helpful tools for some of the tough times...getting chores done, curfew, arguing. If you would like to attend our meetings or be part of our programs, please come to our next meeting on January 13, at 9 am at Kathy Kramer's home. Contact Diane Harp, 284-2781, if you have any questions.

Messages from the Mayor—
I’ll begin my newsletter on a sober note with the passing of long time city employee, Tom Hunter. I believe Tom worked for the city for over 25 years, both as a maintenance man and as a city deputy. Tom didn’t need a map to locate water/sewer lines or even property lines. He actually knew the exact locations. The city crew and office staff sends its condolences to Monica and his children.
There may have been an article in the Colfax Gazette concerning the lights on our trestle. If not, I’m sure you have noticed the lights and Christmas Wreaths that were so ably placed by Monte Morgan, Ted Blaszak, and John Miller. I am told that it took over 800 feet of extension cords to get power to the trestle and that they used over 25 strands of lights!
The city crew, all two of them, will again remove snow off the sidewalks on the downtown part of Crosby Street. That is, if we finally get some of the white stuff!
There is support for a handicapped parking area in front of the feeding station. This will be on the agenda for the January council meeting.
Sorry, no recent progress on cell service for Tekoa.
