~Messages from the Mayor~
Do you get the feeling that our little town is getting torn apart? With work on the sidewalk, water line replacement and the relocation of Busch’s gas tanks, there have been all kinds of heavy equipment and obstacles to deal with on a daily basis. You might have noticed all the pipes, gravel, etc. stored down by the arena. This is for next year, so work can start early in the spring on water line replacement, and work will not be delayed by road restrictions.
There is much to report on, so here goes!!
First, two meetings are scheduled at City Hall that might interest certain members of our community: On November 2, at 7:00 p.m., Bill Fraser, of the Washington State Parks Department, will ask for public input on preparing plans for the Malden-to-Idaho border section of the John Wayne Trail. Also, on November 16, a meeting will be held for interested parties on the extension of the runway at our Willard Field Airport that would extend into Idaho. This meeting will start at 6:00 p.m.
Beginning November 10, all boats, trailers and campers must be removed from city streets. This is consistent with City Ordinance # 439.
Last week a veterinarian from North Palouse Vet Clinic came to Tekoa to provide local citizens with vet services. Sandy Dehan organized the plan; hopefully, this type of service can be continued on a periodic basis.
The city’s budget for 2012 will be discussed at our November 7 council meeting.
Back to our various projects-- our engineering firm that planned the sidewalk on Crosby St. assumed the city owned the property. Well, days before work was to begin, they discovered Larry and Virginia Heaton owned much of the property in question. So……thank you Heatons for your donation. Maybe we should call this sidewalk the “Heaton Walk.”
And, finally, thank you folks who have endured muddy streets, water shut-offs, and the inconvenience of trucks, dust, and noise. If any of you on the south side of town are not sure what I mean, just ask anyone on the north side!! Also, I commend the contractors and workers who are involved with our projects. Their demeanor has been extremely pleasant, and they have appeared to accommodate whenever possible.
