Tekoa Royalty and Float
The Tekoa Royalty Court welcomes everyone to Slippery Gulch days! Queen Myrannda Neill and Princess Wendy Brandt will be your ambassadors for the weekend. Early Saturday morning the court will be greeting guests at the Chamber breakfast. Be sure to ask them for raffle tickets! A highlight of the parade will be the girls riding on the newly designed community float entitled “Painting the Town”.. See the ladies throughout the day during Slippery Gulch events!
Slippery Gulch T-Shirts 2011 Slippery Gulch T-shirts will be available the week of the celebration at Tekoa Variety, Tekoa Hardware and the Tekoa Market. Both adult and children sizes. Cost $10.
Grand Marshal's Former Slippery Gulch Players featuring "Earls Girls" will be the 2011 Slippery Gulch Grand Marshal's! From the celebrations earliest days, the annual variety program showcased talent from the Tekoa area who played to sold out shows. The Theatre windows will celebrate those famous faces who contributed to the long time sucess of Slippery Gulch. Slippery Gulch Raffle Raffle tickets are on sale now at downtown businesses and from Chamber of Commerce members. Prizes include a 5 piece patio set, 4 day passes to Silverwood Theme Park and a mosaic tile table made by local students. See prizes set up at the Day Hay building and Eclair's Coffee House. Tickets are $1 each, 6 for $5, 12 for $10 and 30 for $20. Proceeds fund the SG celebration!
Welcome Reunion Classes!
Everyone Loves a Parade The Kiddie Parade will start at 10:30 am with line-up at 10:15 by the bank. Each entrant will receive a goody bag and prizes will be awarded in 3 categories (motorized, riders and walkers). The Grand Parade begins at 11 am with former Tekoan Cheryl Sieveke singing the National Anthem and Chris and Liz Smith as the parade announcers. . Registration forms are available by calling Steve Haxton 284-2307.

FOOD AND FROLIC
Tekoa Chamber of Commerce Breakfast Bring your appetite Saturday morning from 7:30 am to 10 am at the Tekoa High School Multi-purpose room. Please come join us for a scrumptious breakfast of fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, pancakes, German sausage, and delectable cinnamon rolls. Prices are $6 for adults, $4 for kids and children under 5 eat free.
Four on the Flour will perform at the Headley Building on Friday night from 9 pm to 2 am. Doors open at 8 pm. Remember you must be 21. See you there!
Slippery Gulch Teen Dance! Saturday Night After the fireworks! Dance ends at 1 a.m. Tekoa High School Admission $5 each Music by DJ Joan Hendrickson
Kelly Hughes Band to Play Saturday Night The Kelly Hughes band will play at Headley’s shop (old Brotherton building) Saturday night with doors opening at 8 pm and music underway at 9 pm. There will be an intermission just in time for the fireworks! Enjoy your favorite beverage and limited menu. The event is catered by C&D’s and sponsored by the Tekoa Fair Association. You must be 21 to attend. Credit and debit cards will be accepted.
LET’S EAT! Check out the variety of cuisine available all weekend! *C&D’s Bar and Grill will be serving a full menu all weekend. They will open early on Saturday at 8 am. Families welcome.
C&D's satellite site opns Friday and Saturday starting at 8 am at the new Tekoa Community Center (formerly the Jaycee Club). Spirits, soda and snacks available to all ages. Check it out!
*Amber and Klaus at the Café Artisan will be serving Mexican fare Saturday. Be sure to save room for their homemade ice cream sandwiches!
*Eclair's Coffee House will be open Friday and Saturday for a quick pick-me-up! Choose espresso, blended drinks, italian sodas, pastries and Ferdinand's ice cream.
*Bring your appetite to the Feeding Station for Friday night chicken buffet. Saturday the outdoor grill with be serving up sausages, burgers and with the addition of corndogs and homemade salads. For dinner, choose from the regular menu or feast on a special prime rib dinner. Hours are 11 am-7 pm. Don’t’ forget Dad on Sunday with a special brunch from 10 am-2 pm.
*The Tekoa Market will feature a variety of specials throughout the day including cotton candy!
*Don't forget the 4-H concessions at the arena and volleyball tournament along with the TOR football concessions at the gymkanna grounds.
FRIENDLY COMPETITION
“Small town idol” The popular American “Small Town” Idol will return to the historic Empire Theatre. This year there will be a contest for those 18 and under starting at 4 pm and an adult competition at 6 pm. Cash prizes will be awarded in both categories. Admission is $1. Duck Race
Tekoa Slippery Gulch will host its annual slippery duck race on Saturday, June 18th at the Gymkhana grounds at 1:15 pm. The per duck entry fee is $5. Prizes will be awarded: first place $100, second place $50 and third place $25. Each duck will be numbered and the first quacker to cross the finish line at Hangman Creek is the winner. Purchase your ducks at Tekoa Pharmacy, Tekoa Variety Store, Tekoa Hardware, Kate’s Cuts n Curls and Eclair's.
GET YOUR MOTOR RUNNIN’ The Milestone Car Club will sponsor a car show-up and shine right after the parade. Vehicles can park on main street by the theatre. This is an informal event giving car enthusiasts a chance to display and peruse. Gift certificates given out upon check-in. Entrants may also join the parade. So shine up your special ride and join in the fun! For more information call Jim Gordon at 284-2238.
Calling All Amateur Photographers! Amateur photographers capture your favorite moments in or around Tekoa and enter the Slippery Gulch photo contest! Pictures must be 5”X7” without markings. Each photo will be numbered and logged in at Tekoa Variety no later than 5:30 pm on Friday, June 14th. Each entry costs $5. Prizes will be awarded in 3 age groups. Remember photos must not be older than 2009 Slipperty Gulch. See flyers for all entry requirements and prizes. For more information call Tekoa Variety at 284-2001.
Tekoa Annual Fishing Derby The annual Slippery Gulch Fishing Derby will get underway on Saturday June 11th. Measuring and pictures will take place at Tekoa Hardware during their normal business hours, Monday thru Friday. Entries must be entered by Friday, June 17th at 5:00 pm. Any fish caught over the weekend should be measured on Monday. The boundaries for the derby are between the Washington/Idaho border to the Fairbanks road north of Tekoa. Let’s keep it fun and fair! As always, your child’s picture will be displayed at Tekoa Hardware along will all the excellent prizes donated by our local businesses. Prizes will be awarded after the parade. Age groups are as follows: 0-2, 3-6, 7-10, and 11-14. There is also the Parent/Child division. You must use a different fish for Parent/Child than your individual entries. We can’t wait to see parent and kids lining the creek to make this year’s contest the best ever!
Tekoa Library Relax and rejuvenate at the Tekoa library from 1-6 p.m.
MUSEUM Stroll through the historic Tekoa Museum also open from 1-5pm
Window Displays Take a stroll along Crosby and Main streets and enjoy a long time tradition of Slippery Gulch. The downtown businesses windows will showcase everything from contest winners to our local clubs and organizations and of course those class reunion photos. Displays will be up a week prior to the celebration and remain in place for a few days after.
Remember Crosby Street closes at 9am for the parade. Please make sure kids stay safe during the parade and do not run out in front of moving vehicles!
FIREWORKS
Donations from businesses and private parties around area enable us to have a magnificent fireworks display. Cans have been placed at various businesses in town and donations are also accepted at AmericanWest Bank. We appreciate any and all monetary support so we can continue this special tradition. Fireworks start around 10pm!
VENDORS
The Gymkhana grounds and main street will host a variety of vendors selling and displaying everything from toys to homemade jam. The kid’s jumping castle will also make a return!
SPORTS PAGE
"Are you Smarter Than a 50 Year Grad" Come cheer on your favorite reunion class as they test their remembrance skills and vey for the (soon to be coveted) "trophy." Fun starts Saturday at 1:30 at the Empire Theatre.
Bump, Set, Spike! A volleyball tournament will be played on the grass at the grade school starting at 1pm on Saturday. You can pre-register for this tournament by contacting Ignacio and Tammy Mendoza at 284-2190. The cost is $10 dollars per team. There will be recreational and competitive classes. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners! Refreshments will be provided by the Tekoa 4-H! Tekoa Swimming Pool The Tekoa Swimming Pool is open 1-5pm and is located below the Tekoa High School on Warren Street. Admission is $1.50.
Fun Run Put on your running shoes Saturday morning for a 5 or 2 mile jog or walk along. Race starts at 8am sharp at the high school. The five mile runners will start at the high school and travel east over WY 274 to the Washington State line where they leave pavement and return to the high school on a dirt road. The top male and female competitors in the five mile race will receive trophies to be awarded downtown after the parade. In the two mile, noncompetitive event participants will go out HWY 274 to the one mile mark and return to the high school. The entry fee for both events is $10 and free for those who don’t want a t-shirt. Runners and walkers in both events should check in at the high school beginning at 7 a.m. Egg Toss Get your partner now for the biggest egg toss in Whitman County. Following the Parade!
Tekoa Golf Course The Tekoa Golf Club hopes you enjoy all the Slippery Gulch events. We extend an invitation to play our beautiful 9 holes.
Kid Games
Come down to the Gymkhana grounds at 2:30 pm on Saturday for all sorts of fun and games. There is the three-legged race, wheel barrow race, gunny sack race and individual events. Cash prizes will be awarded to the first, second, and third place winners.
Iron Horse Arena Welcome Palouse River Ropers Association! The Iron Horse Arena will be alive with activity with roping events starting at 6 pm on Saturday. Sunday, saddle up for rodeo fun bright and early at 9 am. Admission for spectators is free! The cook shack will also be open for refreshments throughout the competition. Courtesy of the Tekoa 4-H! SMALL TOWN IDOL
We need contenstants for our "Idol" show to be held June 19th during Slippery Gulch Days! This year we will hold a competition @ 4:00 pm for kids 18 and under and a second competition for those over 18 @ 6:00 pm. Both performances will be at the Empire Theatre.
Hurry we will only accept entries from the first 10 contenstants in each category!
